The Lyon African museum was created in 1863 by the Société des Missions Africaines (African Missionary Society). The African Museum approaches the cultural meeting between Africa and Europe through an anthropological and esthetic angle. On three floors, 2126 works from daily, social and religious life are exhibited, all from Subsaharan West Africa. The testify to the vitality of the peoples and cultures of the past and present.
