Amphitheatre of the Three Gauls

The oldest amphitheatre in Gaul.

On the slopes of the Croix-Rousse hill in Lyon you will find the oldest Roman amphitheatre in what was once ancient Gaul.
The Trois Gaules Amphitheatre was built in 19 AD and was used for shows and circus performances.
This amphitheatre was a part of the federal sanctuary of Les Trois Gaules which was dedicated to honouring Rome and Augustus, where sixty Gaulish nations gathered at Lugdunum. Enlarged in the 2nd century AD, the building could host up to 20,000 people.
Discover this monument nestled within the botanical gardens in Lyon.
