Amphitheatre of the Three Gauls
The oldest amphitheatre in Gaul.
On the slopes of the Croix-Rousse hill in Lyon is the oldest Roman amphitheatre in Gaul.
The Amphitheatre of the Three Gauls was completed in the 19th year AD, and hosted shows and circus games.
This Amphitheatre was in the Three Gauls sanctuary, which was dedicated to the cult of Rome and Augustus by the sixty Gaul Nations gathered in Lugdunum. Extended in the 2nd century AD, the building was able to welcome up to 20,000 people.
